DENIS SANTACANA
Denis Santacana Maiztegui was born in San Sebastian (Spain) in 1984. He trained in classical and contemporary dance at the María de Ávila Studio (Zaragoza), with teachers such as Lola de Ávila. He combines his training with theater studies at the Escuela Municipal de Teatro de Zaragoza. In 2013 he finished the Contemporary Dance Choreography Degree at the Conservatorio Superior Maria de Ávila in Madrid. Subsequently, he completed the EDge postgraduate course at the London Contemporary Dance School. As a performer he has worked with Spanish companies such as Shybba, Experimentadanza, La Pharmaco, Zuk Danze, Carmen Roche Ballet, Carmen Fumero Dance Company, Paraphernalia Danza, and different creations by Spanish choreographers. Since 2012 he has developed his career as a choreographer and performer of his own creations as a freelance company. As a company he has premiered more than ten works, and has toured the main Spanish festivals and has performed in countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Portugal or Korea. He has also worked as a choreographer for dance training programmes such as the European University of Madrid or the 189º Dance Laboratory. In addition, he has collaborated with choreographic research projects such as the «Atalak» network or «Estancias Coreográficas». Since 2019 he has combined his career as a choreographer and performer, with teaching, as a professor at the Higher School of Dramatic Art and Dance of the Basque Country.
At the Origen Festival he danced in Yuka Oishis ballet «Time» in 2023.
