CÉSAR FARIA FERNANDES
Born in Montijo, Portugal, in 1987, César completed his dance education at the Escola de Dança do Conservatório Nacional in Lisbon.
In 2005 he received a one year scholarship to attend the Heinz-Bosl-Stiftung in Munich, Germany, where he worked with Alexander Prokofiev and Robert North among others. One year later he joined the Portuguese Contemporary Dance Company (C.P.B.C) under the direction of Vasco Wellenkamp and later Pedro Goucha Gomes. In 2007 he became an associate member of TOK’ART until its closure in 2016, where he performed works by André Mesquita sporadically on a free-lance base.
In the year 2008 he joined Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) 2 where he stayed until the summer of 2011 — under the direction of Gerald Tibbs — creating with Jiří Kylián, Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Johan Inger, Marco Goecke, Lukas Timulak and Alexander Ekman. In 2011 César joined NDT 1 under the direction of Jim Vincent (2011-2012) and Paul Lightfoot (2012-2020). In NDT 1 César performed works with renowned choreographic voices such as Crystal Pite, Marco Goecke, Ohad Naharin, Johan Inger, Hofesh Shechter and Gabriela Carrizo & Frank Chartier (Peeping Tom). In 2015, as part of Korzo Productions, César collaborated with choreographer Joeri Dubbe in his creation «Kitsune».
At the Origen Festival he was dancing in Luca-Andrea Tessarini's «Elements» (2020).
